it started with a pickup truck
Our journey began in Chicago in the fall of 2012, where a couple of late bloomer art grads began to source and refinish mid century modern furniture. It was new love, old furniture, a story as vintage as time. Beginning humbly with an old Ford Ranger and half of a rented apartment garage, we scoured estate sales and thrift shops for hidden gems. Even then we dreamed of growing our hustle into something more.
Once in a great while we came across a Scandinavian piece of furniture from the 1960’s. We coveted its well crafted materials, build principles, and utilitarian beauty. While importing directly from overseas was still a novel idea, we aspired to do so one day.
After years of saving, we embarked on a fateful honeymoon to Scandinavia, where we toured several warehouses in Copenhagen.
Fast forward a few months to us unloading our very first 20-foot container in front of our Chicago storefront, a dream realized and a new business model born.
Numerous trips to Denmark later, where we soaked up the culture, maybe indulged in our fair share of croissants and IPAs, with our laser focused objective of handpicking the finest vintage at the best prices for our customers. We sought well-built, affordable pieces, echoing the philosophy of early Danish makers like Borge Morgensen: furniture should be democratic – well-made and affordable.
We've since applied our years of experience fixing and studying furniture to create simple, no-frills pieces. With the help of our Indiana builders incorporating hardwood into the equation, our belief is this evolution will add even more longevity, continuing the beloved tradition of Scandinavian furniture we love so much.
It’s been one heck of a ride and we’re so grateful for all the support from fellow furniture and design lovers throughout the years. From our Avondale garage to our renovated storefront in Chicago and now shifting gears to be exclusively online, we feel even more driven than ever to deliver the very best pieces to our clientele.
Thanks so much for following along. Hope you enjoy your piece for years to come!
